DITO Telecom sets technical launch on July 8

Telco startup DITO Telecommunity Corp. is still on track and ready for its technical launch on July 8, DITO chief administrative officer Adel Tamano said.

“The DITO Telecommunity rollout is continuing as best as we can during this COVID19 pandemic and is currently assessing how best to proceed with the mandated technical launch on July 8,” he added.

This week, DITO conducted its speed test dry run in Taguig City.

The technical launch means the start of internal monitoring of its commitment to provide services to 37 percent of the country’s population with a minimum average speed of 27 megabits per second during its first year of operations.

By the end of its fifth year, DITO promised to cover 84 percent of the Philippines and offer a minimum average speed of at least 55 mbps.

The technical launch differs from the rollout of commercial services to subscribers, which could come as late as March 2021.

Metro Manila and urban areas in Luzon are key markets in ensuring DITO meets its population coverage targets.

“Let me assure the public that we are very much aware of the pressing need for world class connectivity that Filipinos truly deserve which this global pandemic has made even more evident,” Tamano said.

In 2018, DITO was named as the country’s third major telco player that would challenge industry incumbents PLDT Inc. and Globe Telecom.

Kwentong Dream House nila Doug Kramer at Cheska Garcia-Kramer

Photo courtesy: Team Kramer Facebook Account

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian recommends postponement of class opening

READ - Senator Sherwin Gatchalian on Friday said he would recommend to defer the opening of classes in August should the Department of Education (DepEd) still be unprepared by July 15.

The DepEd needs to train at least 80 percent of the 800,000 public school teachers by the said date before they could say that the country is ready to open virtual and distance-learning classes on August 24, Gatchalian said in an online press conference.

"Nakita naman natin na gumagalaw, but we have to be realistic kasi ang DepEd ay napakalaki at napakarami ng estudyante,"
